Morning Mixed-Age Program
Our Morning Mixed-Age Program is almost full for September 2017. Limited seats remain in our Afternoon Mixed-Age Program. Click here to learn more about our Afternoon Mixed-Age Program!
Two classrooms immersed in natural lighting and high ceilings are dedicated to our morning mixed-age program. This program meets daily from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Dismissal options beyond 12:30 p.m. are available. In addition, early drop-off is available beginning at 8:00 a.m. (Please see Early Birds below for more information).
basic Program: 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. | $21,140
This is the core program option. Class begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m. Organic, nut-free snacks are provided by MMS, and children are taught to listen to their tummies and help themselves to snacks at any time. They often opt to snack with a friend or two, which makes for some interesting conversations at the snack table!
LUNCH With Friends: 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. | $22,838
After class ends at 12:30 p.m., some children remain until 1:30 p.m. to enjoy lunch with their friends and teachers in the classroom. This also includes rest and relaxation after their meals and story time with their teachers. The ambiance becomes more calm and low-key to encourage children to wind down after their meals. (Lunch is provided by families, as MMS does not have a school lunch program).
Extended day is designed to be a seamless experience in the daily life of a preschool age child. It should not be thought of as "school." After lunch, children who still nap go down for their afternoon naps for about 60-90 minutes. Afterwards, they join the older children in afternoon activities if their extended day schedule goes beyond nap time.
The older children transition to afternoon activities at 1:30 p.m. and have an opportunity to come together with children in our afternoon mixed-age program. Together, they enjoy activities on the terrace playground, nature walks on the Upper West Side, art, dance, cooking/baking, yoga, and more. Montessori enrichment time is also allotted for children who wish to continue exploring the materials and activities from their morning classes.
We offer three extended day dismissal options:
9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. | $26,234
9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. | $28,782
9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. | $30,481
Families who may only occasionally need to utilize our extended day dismissal options are welcome to do so for $12 per each additional hour beyond the child's regular schedule.
Spanish OR MANDARIN: MONDAY - FRIDAY | 8:30 A.M. - 9:00 A.M. | $1,340
Being in New York City allows us to bring together a very diverse staff of teachers and administrators. Together, we represent eight nations and four languages, including Arabic, Mandarin, Polish and Spanish.
We believe it's important to offer children the opportunity to acquire new languages. Children ages 2-6 possess a natural proclivity for language acquisition, and our ever-shrinking global society encourages future generations to develop foreign language skills.
Between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., children may enroll in either Spanish or Mandarin classes. Children are taught the basics via hands-on methods and learn a great deal about the peoples and cultures representing these languages.
The greeting hour takes place between 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Parents/caregivers are welcome to arrive with their children at any time during the greeting hour. They can either spend time with their children in the classroom before class begins at 9:00 a.m., or they may use our Early Birds option for a nominal fee of $12/day. This fee is not required when choosing to remain with your child during the greeting hour.
If you need to take advantage of our Early Birds option for the entirety of the school year, you may enroll for an added fee of $475 for the year.
Explorers kindergarten prep program: 1:30 P.m. - 3:30 p.m. | $29,141
Children enrolled in our morning mixed-age program who are 4 years-old or older are eligible to attend the Explorers Kindergarten Prep Program. We have designed a program that prepares preschool children to transition from a Montessori preschool environment to a more traditional kindergarten setting.
Children are introduced to kindergarten-level materials, concepts and routines. Lessons are presented by the teacher, followed by group and individual practice. During the 2017-18 school year, Arabic language will be infused into the Explorers curriculum, offering kindergarten-bound children the opportunity to explore a new language.
Afternoon snack is provided by MMS.
Our Explorers Program began over 30 years ago as a way to meet the developmental needs of kindergarten-bound children. Since its inception, the program has received accolades from families and ongoing schools to which our alumni children have exmitted, including public, gifted & talented, private and parochial schools.
When enrolling in this program, your child's daily schedule would be as follows:
9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. | montessori class
12:30 A.M. - 1:30 p.m. | lunch with friends
1:30 A.m. - 3:30 P.m. | explorers class
(Optional: Extended day dismissal options are available beyond 3:30 p.m.)
Each year, MMS is able to offer a limited number of partial financial aid awards. Funding is provided by the fundraising efforts of Morningside Montessori families.
Morningside Montessori School is partnered with the School & Student Services (SSS) by the National Association of Independent Schools. Families interested in applying for aid will complete an online application on SSS, after which, a Parent Financial Statement (PFS) is generated. Our admissions office redacts and prepares all applications, ensuring privacy and confidentiality. Applications are then submitted for review to the MMS Financial Aid Committee, which is composed of three to four members of Morningside Montessori School's Board of Trustees.
In September, information about how to apply for financial aid will be made available on this page. To be considered for aid, you must complete the financial aid application before January 12, 2018.
