Phase 1: The Open House & Online Application

We invite you to attend an informational Open House this October or November. The Open House is a casual adult-only event meant to introduce you to our school. Please note that we offer two different Open Houses: one for families interested in our Twos Program and another for those interested in our Mixed-Age Programs, as these programs are considerably different. Please be sure to register for the appropriate Open House.

Our online application for September 2018 enrollment is now available!  Click on the APPLY NOW button below to complete and submit your application.

Phase 2: The School Tour & Child Visit

Upon receiving and processing your online application, our Director of Admissions will contact you to schedule your school tour and child visit.

School tours take place on Mondays and Tuesdays, from 10:30am - 12:00pm, November through February. Families have an opportunity to observe our classrooms during a typical school day, to learn more about our school from a parent's perspective, and to speak with our Head of School and Director of Admissions. Please note that children should not be in attendance during the school tour.

The child visit is an opportunity for your child to explore and experience our classroom environment, as well as a chance for us to observe your child's level of comfort in our environment. Child visits also begin in November. For Twos Program applicants, visits take place on Sunday mornings. For Mixed-Age Program applicants, visits take place on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.

You are not required to tour our school prior to your child's visit; however, many families find it helpful to do so.

Optional: Apply for Financial Aid

Families who qualify for financial aid based on financial need will be able to submit an online financial aid application beginning October 2, 2017.

Applying for financial aid is a three step process. All steps must be completed before noon on Friday, January 12, 2018

(1) Download and review the Family Guide to Financial Aid

(2) Complete an online application.  For assistance with completing your application, download this instructional flyer.

(3) Email supporting documents to admissions@morningsidemontessori.org. Supporting documents include the 2015 and 2016 tax returns and W2 statements of the child's parents/guardians.

The financial aid application fee is $49. Qualified families will automatically receive a fee waiver based on an automatic means-test approach. Based on your responses to different questions in your online financial aid application (step 2 above), your fee will be waived if you meet the criteria. At the payment page, you will be notified if you qualify for a waiver.

Morningside Montessori School is partnered with the School & Student Services (SSS) by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). Families interested in applying for aid will complete an online application on SSS, after which, a Parent Financial Statement (PFS) is generated. Applications are redacted to ensure anonymity and submitted to our Financial Aid Committee for review. The Committee is composed of three to four members of Morningside Montessori School's Board of Trustees

Each year, MMS is able to offer a limited number of small financial aid awards. Funding is provided by the fundraising efforts of Morningside Montessori families.  Please note that, due to our limited funds, we do not offer financial aid for our two weekday Twos Program.

Phase 3: Admissions Decision & Enrollment

Morningside Montessori School is a member of the Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY), and as such, follows the ISAAGNY timeline for admissions notifications.

Families who apply by January 9, 2018 will receive an admissions notification via email on Wednesday, March 1, 2018. Those who apply for financial aid (see Phase 2 above) will receive a financial aid decision along with their admissions notifications.

The family reply deadline is Friday, March 10, 2018 before noon. Families who choose to accept our offer of admission must submit their deposit form and payment by March 10 before noon in order to guarantee their child's spot.

Sibling and legacy applicants must apply no later than December 1, 2016. Admissions decisions for sibling and legacy applicants are sent via email by Friday, January 20. The reply deadline is Friday, January 27.  Families who choose to accept our offer of admission must submit their deposit form and payment by January 27 in order to guarantee their child's spot. (Please scroll down to review our Sibling & Legacy policy.)

Applicants who apply after January 9, 2018 will receive admissions decisions on a rolling basis, contingent upon the number of spaces available in our programs.

ISAAGNY IS A NON-PROFIT ASSOCIATION OF EARLY CHILDHOOD AND ONGOING SCHOOLS THAT GREW OUT OF THE NEED TO CLARIFY THE PROCESS OF APPLYING TO INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS AND MAKE THE TRANSITION BETWEEN SCHOOLS EASIER FOR APPLICANTS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

ISAAGNY SERVES ITS MEMBER SCHOOLS BY SETTING GUIDELINES ON MATTERS OF COMMON INTEREST, SUCH AS NOTIFICATION DATES, AND CONDUCTING WORKSHOPS TO INCREASE PROFESSIONALISM AND ENCOURAGE COOPERATION AMONG SCHOOLS.

Phase 4: The New Family Breakfast

Families who accept our offers of admission are invited to attend our New Family Breakfast in April, where they are welcomed to the Morningside Montessori community by our faculty and administration, our current and alumni families, and members of our Board of Trustees. The journey begins!

Sibling and Legacy Policy

As an ISAAGNY school, Morningside Montessori School participates in the Early Notification option for sibling and legacy candidates. These candidates are evaluated according to the same criteria as all other applicants and must follow many of the same procedures.

Morningside Montessori believes that our families help make our community strong; sibling and legacy applicants who meet our admission criteria can be reasonably assured that a space will be offered when applying.  Given that, our goal is to ensure the right match between an applicant and our school. The most important criteria for admission include that the applicant will be well served by our mission and program. Sibling and legacy families must actively pursue other school options for each applicant.

In order to be considered for early notification, all application materials must be received by the ISAAGNY deadline. Families who choose Early Notification receive notification sometime between mid-December and early January. Early Notification is contractually binding. If a child is accepted as an Early Notification candidate, then all applications to other Member Schools to which the child has applied as a regular candidate must be promptly withdrawn.  Parents will have until noon of the Early Notification Parent Reply Deadline to formally notify in writing their acceptance of the Early Notification contract.

In the case where an applicant qualifies, and the parents have opted for Early Notification at more than one Member School, upon receipt of Early Notification acceptance by any Member School, the parents shall be obligated to promptly withdraw all Regular Decision applications to other Member Schools. Parents will be granted the full Early Notification Parent Reply period to choose between the Early Notification acceptances.

Morningside Montessori School is committed to this early notification policy because we believe that families who know our community well understand the value of a Morningside education. As such, for the purpose of our Sibling and Legacy Application Policy, we use the following definitions:

Sibling:  Any child who is a sibling of a current or former Morningside Montessori School student.

Legacy:  Any child whose parent or guardian is either an alum or a current employee of Morningside Montessori School.
